Learning Objectives

Indicator: B8.3.1.1.1 - Examine the importance of human rights and responsibilities in the Ghanaian society.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Define human rights and responsibilities in their own words, distinguishing between the two concepts.
  2. Identify at least five human rights enshrined in the 1992 Constitution of Ghana and explain why each is important.
  3. Explain the relationship between rights and responsibilities, using examples from daily life in Ghana.
  4. Evaluate the consequences for society when human rights are violated or responsibilities are neglected, citing local examples.
  5. Use digital resources to find information on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and relate its provisions to the Ghanaian context.

4. Using the fishbowl strategy, learners identify the rights and responsibilities of people in Ghana.
5. Learners undertake a project in the community on human rights and how to safeguard them (collect data on human rights issues in the community).
