Learning Objectives
Indicator: B8.1.4.1.2 - Discuss the relevance of volunteerism to community development.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Define volunteerism in their own words and give at least two examples of volunteer work in their community.
- Identify at least four different volunteering roles common in Ghanaian communities and explain what each contributes to community development.
- Explain, with concrete examples, how volunteerism supports socio-economic development in communities.
- Discuss in small groups the benefits of volunteerism to both the volunteer and the community, and present their findings clearly to the class.
- Assess a given community problem and propose volunteer-based solutions to address it.

Using concept maps, learners identify volunteering roles in the community and their contribution to community development (E.g., communal activity, community fundraising, etc.). 3. In mixed grouping, learners discuss the importance of volunteerism to the community's socio-economic development.
