Learning Objectives

Indicator: B7.6.1.2.2 - Analyse the impact of the slave trade on Ghanaian society.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Explain at least three ways the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade caused depopulation in the Gold Coast.
  2. Describe how the slave trade disrupted traditional, social and economic structures in Ghanaian societies.
  3. Discuss the effects of the slave trade on family life, chieftaincy and local industries.
  4. Present a reasoned argument, either for or against a given statement about the impact of the slave trade, using evidence from the lesson.
  5. Work collaboratively in groups to identify and present the major impacts of the slave trade on Ghanaian society.
