Learning Objectives

Indicator: 2.3.1.LI.3 - Demonstrate command of Relative/Adjectival Clauses in sentences for communicative purposes.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Define a relative/adjectival clause and identify the relative pronouns (who, whom, whose, which, that) and relative adverbs (where, when, why) that introduce them.
  2. Distinguish between restrictive (defining) and non-restrictive (non-defining) relative clauses and punctuate each correctly in writing.
  3. Combine two simple sentences into one sentence containing a relative clause without changing the original meaning.
  4. Use relative clauses to add descriptive detail and variety to both spoken and written communication about familiar Ghanaian topics.
  5. Analyse short texts and peer writing to identify relative clauses, evaluate their effectiveness, and revise sentences to include them where they improve clarity or interest.
