Learning Objectives

Indicator: 2.3.1.LI.3 - Apply designing and finishing processes to create an artistic project to solve a social problem.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify and document at least three social problems in their school or community that can be addressed through artistic projects.
  2. Generate at least three distinct design ideas using thumbnails and annotated sketches, showing clear links between each idea and the social problem it addresses.
  3. Select one design idea and justify their choice by explaining how the chosen concept, materials and finishing techniques respond to the identified problem.
  4. Create a finished artistic project that applies appropriate designing and finishing processes to communicate a message about the selected social problem.
  5. Present and evaluate their finished project using simple criteria, explaining how the protective and decorative finishing processes they used enhance both the durability and the message of the work.
