SHS1 Robotics · Semester 2, Week 8
Higher Order Design Thinking
Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: 1.3.1.LI.2 - Define solutions to fundamental automated and robotic problems using algorithms, pseudocodes, and flowchart diagrams.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Restate a fundamental automated or robotic problem in their own words, identifying the main goal and constraints.
- Construct a step-by-step algorithm that solves a given problem, with steps in the correct logical order.
- Translate a simple algorithm into a pseudocode format using standard keywords such as START, INPUT, PROCESS, DECISION, and OUTPUT.
- Draw a flowchart diagram using the correct symbols (oval, rectangle, diamond, parallelogram, arrow) to represent the flow of inputs through processes to outputs.
- Compare an algorithm, a pseudocode, and a flowchart for the same problem and verify that all three represent the same solution, making corrections where they disagree.

Problem-Based Learning: Use flowcharts, pseudo-codes and algorithms to represent the flow of inputs through processes to outputs as determined in the learning experience of indicator Assessment (1.3.1.AS.2). The document marks these depth-of-knowledge levels for this indicator: Level 3 Strategic reasoning.
