SHS1 Robotics · Semester 1, Week 14

Sensors & Actuators

Lesson notes

Learning Objectives

Indicator: 1.1.3.LI.1 - Examine varying outputs of different linear sensors and explain the variations observed.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify at least four different linear sensors (light, colour, ultrasonic, temperature) and state what physical quantity each one measures.
  2. Collect and record output readings from two or more linear sensors under changing conditions, using tables and graphs.
  3. Explain, in their own words, why the output of a given sensor changes when the measured quantity changes, referring to the relationship between the sensor’s input and output.
  4. Compare the outputs of different sensors responding to the same or similar stimuli and describe the variations observed in terms of range, sensitivity, and response pattern.
  5. Present and discuss their experimental findings with classmates, justifying their observations with evidence from their recorded data.

Project-Based Learning: Learners watch a video on linear sensors and share their observations. Guide learners in conducting various experiments using linear sensors and observing and documenting experiment results. Learners share results with the class for comments.

Assessment (1.1.3.AS.1). The document marks these depth-of-knowledge levels for this indicator: Level 3 Strategic reasoning.
