Learning Objectives

Indicator: 1.2.1.LI.2 - Plan to create/produce a Performing Arts artistic product(s) using indigenous knowledge systems.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Develop a detailed pre-production plan that includes all key stages: timeline, budget, roles, and resources needed for a Performing Arts artistic product.
  2. Identify and integrate at least three specific indigenous knowledge systems (e.g., traditional festival protocols, oral storytelling conventions, sacred drum rhythms) into their artistic product plan.
  3. Assign production roles to group members based on strengths and interests, demonstrating equitable distribution of responsibilities.
  4. Create a realistic production timeline that sequences activities from concept to final performance, including rehearsal dates, resource mobilisation, and poster design deadlines.
  5. Justify choices made in the planning process by explaining how each decision reflects indigenous knowledge systems and cultural authenticity.

Experiential Learning:

- In groups learners discuss The Pre-production stage: drawing a production timeline, play/idea selection, composing the artistic product(s), budgeting, auditioning, mobilising other resources, designing posters, etc.

Project-based learning: In Groups learners

- incorporate traditional indigenous music, dance, and storytelling into the event
- use indigenous knowledge systems to guide event planning and decision-making

Activity-Based Learning:

- Use indigenous knowledge systems to guide the development of [the artistic product(s)] being it scripts, choreography, and/or music. Collaborate with indigenous artists and performers to ensure cultural authenticity
