Learning Objectives

Indicator: 3.3.1.LI.1 - Explain floor plan in relation to building codes, standards and symbols.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Define a floor plan and state its purpose in the building industry.
  2. Identify and explain at least four common building codes and standards that regulate floor plan design in Ghana.
  3. Recognise and interpret at least six standard symbols used on floor plans (doors, windows, walls, stairs, sanitary fittings, electrical points).
  4. Relate building codes and standards to a given floor plan and justify why certain features (such as doorway widths or stair dimensions) appear the way they do.
  5. Work collaboratively in groups to analyse a sample floor plan and present findings on how it complies with relevant codes and standards.
