SHS2 Design And Communication Technology · Semester 2, Week 13

Mechanical Drawing

Lesson notes

Learning Objectives

Indicator: 2.3.2.LI.3 - Draw the sectional views of machine parts and components with drawing instruments.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Explain the purpose of a sectional view in mechanical drawing and state when it is necessary.
  2. Identify and label the standard features of a sectional view, including the cutting plane line, section lines (hatching), and visible edges behind the cut.
  3. Draw a full sectional view of a given machine part (such as a bush bearing or coupling) using drawing instruments, following the correct line weights and conventions.
  4. Apply the principle of hatching at 45 degrees with uniform spacing to represent the cut surfaces of a machine component.
  5. Evaluate their own and peers’ sectional drawings against a given checklist of sectioning principles, giving constructive feedback.
