SHS2 Design And Communication Technology · Semester 2, Week 12
Mechanical Drawing
Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: 2.3.2.LI.2 - Draw the sectional views of machine parts and components using drawing instruments
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Identify the correct cutting plane line placement for various machine parts based on the principles of sectioning studied in Week 11.
- Draw a full sectional view of a simple machine component (such as a bush or pulley) using drawing instruments with correct hatching.
- Draw a half sectional view of a symmetrical machine part, correctly showing both the external and internal features in the appropriate halves.
- Apply the correct hatching technique, including spacing, angle, and direction, to distinguish cut surfaces from uncut surfaces in their drawings.
- Assess their own and peers’ sectional drawings against a checklist of standard sectioning conventions, identifying at least two corrections needed.

Activity-based learning, Experiential learning: Help learners to use drawing instruments to draw the sections of some parts of a machine such as a bolt, nut, thread, full, half, broken out, offset sections, etc. Assessment (2.3.2.AS.2). The document marks these depth-of-knowledge levels for this indicator: Level 3 Strategic reasoning.
