SHS2 Design And Communication Technology · Semester 2, Week 7
Building Drawing
Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: 2.3.1.LI.3 - Draw elevations of simple buildings in relation to their plans using appropriate drawing instruments.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Read a given floor plan and correctly identify which side of the building each elevation (north, south, east, west) represents.
- Select and use appropriate drawing instruments (set-squares, scale ruler, protractor, dividers) to project the height and width of a simple building from its plan.
- Draw at least one accurately scaled elevation from a given floor plan, correctly showing doors, windows, roof pitch and ground line.
- Check their finished elevation against the plan to verify that all openings align in both position and size.
- Explain, in their own words, why elevations must match the plan and how elevation drawings help builders and clients visualise a finished building.
