Learning Objectives

Indicator: 2.3.1.LI.2 - Make freehand sketches of elevations of simple domestic buildings in relation to their plans.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

Identify the four principal elevations (north, south, east, west) of a simple domestic building from a given floor plan.
Explain how features on a floor plan (doors, windows, roof pitch, veranda) translate to their corresponding positions on an elevation.
Make a freehand sketch of at least one elevation of a simple domestic building, correctly placed in relation to the plan.
Compare and contrast the four elevations of the same building, noting where they are similar and where they differ.
Justify the choice of scale and proportion used in their freehand elevation sketch, showing strategic reasoning.

Content standard: 2.3.1.CS.1 - 2.3.1.CS.1 Understand the concept of building drawing. 2.3.1.LO.1 Employ the understanding of floor plans with the use of building codes, standards and symbols, make the sketches of elevations of buildings and use the drawing instrument to draw some of them. 2.3.1.LO.2 Use your understanding on the principles of electrical circuit and circuit diagrams to explain electrical circuit and circuit diagrams.
