SHS2 Design And Communication Technology · Semester 1, Week 4
Object Manipulation in Drawing
Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: 2.1.2.LI.1 - Investigate how simple and complex objects can be modified through object manipulation techniques.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Define object manipulation in drawing and identify at least four techniques used to modify simple and complex objects.
- Examine given design images in mixed groups and determine the probable tools and techniques used to manipulate the original object, giving reasons for their conclusions.
- Brainstorm and list at least five ways a given everyday object (e.g., a drinking cup or a wooden stool) can be modified through drawing techniques.
- Analyse a simple household object and describe how its form, function, or meaning changes when manipulated using specific drawing techniques.
- Generate a manual pictorial table or chart showing original objects alongside their manipulated versions, labelling the technique applied in each case.

Collaborative learning/Group work Managing Talk for Learning: Put learners in mixed groups to brainstorm how different objects can be manipulated through drawing. Collaborative/Group learning: In mixed groups, let learners examine selected designs to determine the possible tools and techniques that were used to manipulate the initial object. Project-Based Learning: Let learners work individually/in groups to generate a manual or digital pictorial table/chart of designs that have been created through object manipulation. Assessment (2.1.2.AS.1). The document marks these depth-of-knowledge levels for this indicator: Level 1 Recall; Level 2 Skills of conceptual understanding; Level 3 Strategic reasoning; Level 4 Extended critical thinking and reasoning. Teaching and Learning Materials: - Models - Charts - reference books - drawing studio - access to internet - LCD Projector - sketches. - Pencils - Sketch pads - Erasers - Pencil sharpener - Drawing pens or ink - Blending stumps - Charcoal
