SHS2 Robotics · Semester 2, Week 10
Robot Construction
Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: 2.3.2.LI.2 - Analyse and perform basic calculations involving velocity and trajectory motions and apply trajectory calculations to robot navigations.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Calculate the average velocity of a robot given its displacement and the time taken, using the formula velocity = displacement ÷ time.
- Determine the direction of velocity and the general direction of acceleration at any point along a given trajectory, and justify their reasoning.
- Use the equations of motion to compute the position and velocity of a robot as a function of time when given initial velocity, initial position, and constant acceleration.
- Apply angular velocity and angular position calculations to a rotating robot component or wheel.
- Plan a simple navigation trajectory for a robot between two points and calculate the velocity required to complete the move in a specified time.

Talk for Learning: Through demonstration, guide learners to identify the direction of velocity and general direction of acceleration at any point in time when given the trajectory of an object in space. Share their finding with the class for comments. Talk for Learning: In pairs, learners think about the meaning of "equations of motion'' and discuss how to compute position and velocity as a function of time when given the acceleration as a function of time, initial velocity and position. Discuss it for both linear and angular position and velocity. Assessment (2.3.2.AS.2). The document marks these depth-of-knowledge levels for this indicator: Level 3 Strategic reasoning; Level 4 Extended critical thinking and reasoning. Teaching and Learning Resources: - Videos and flip board showing how distance, velocity, acceleration and time are measured - Videos, real objects presentation using the human arm
