SHS2 Geography · Semester 1, Week 13
The Earth Atmosphere
Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: 2.1.3.LI.3 - Describe the characteristics associated with vegetation within each climatic zone in the world
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Name at least five major climatic zones of the world and identify their approximate locations on a world map.
- Describe the dominant vegetation type found in each climatic zone, including its main physical features such as height, leaf structure, and root system.
- Explain how at least two climate elements (temperature and rainfall) determine the type of vegetation that grows in a given climatic zone.
- Match specific plant species and vegetation characteristics to their correct climatic zones, using examples from both Ghana and other parts of the world.
- Design a poster showing the relationship between climate and vegetation for one assigned climatic zone, and present it to the class with confidence.

Exemplars (from the NaCCA curriculum)
Talk for learning: Using videos, pictures and other relevant materials in all-inclusive and gender responsive, brainstorm as a whole class the climate and its associated vegetation. Activity-Based Learning: In manageable GESI groups, design posters on the vegetation within each climatic zone and describe their key features. Learners during discussions should provide opportunities for others to practice identifying potential situations or experiences that lead to feeling overwhelmed and struggling to manage emotions. Assessment (2.1.3.AS.3). The document marks these depth-of-knowledge levels for this indicator: Level 2 Skills of conceptual understanding. Teaching and Learning Resources: - Textbooks - Videos/pictures of types of air masses and fronts - Videos/pictures of types of rainfall and factors that influence weather and climate
