SHS1 Geography · Semester 2, Week 6
Geospatial Data Collection, Representation and Interpretation
Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: 1.2.2.LI.2 - Assess the geospatial data collection tools
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Compare the advantages and disadvantages of traditional geospatial data collection tools (chain, compass) with modern tools (GPS, remote sensing, mobile apps) using at least three criteria such as accuracy, cost and speed.
- Justify the choice of a particular geospatial data collection tool for a given scenario, explaining at least two reasons for the choice.
- Evaluate the reliability of geospatial data collected using different tools by identifying potential sources of error in each method.
- Recommend the most appropriate geospatial data collection tool for a real-life surveying problem in their community, defending their recommendation in a group discussion.

Collaborative learning: Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the various spatial data collection methods/tools. Ensure that reserved learners contribute during discussion. The emotions of approaching proficiency learners should not be override when they don't contribute to discussion as expected. Assessment (1.2.2.AS.2). The document marks these depth-of-knowledge levels for this indicator: Level 3 Strategic reasoning. Teaching and Learning Resources: - Mobile phone - Computer Apps - Google Earth App - GPS - Video on how satellites revolve around the earth
