Learning Objectives
Indicator: 1.2.1.LI.2 - Explain the concept of map scale and convert from one scale type to another
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Define map scale in their own words and distinguish between the three main types of map scale: statement, representative fraction (R.F), and linear scale.
- Convert a given scale from one type to another, for example from a statement scale to a representative fraction and vice versa.
- Construct a simple linear scale from a given statement or representative fraction scale.
- Justify the choice of a particular scale type for a given purpose, considering the advantages and disadvantages of each type.
- Apply map scale conversion skills to solve real-world distance problems using maps of Ghana and other places.

Collaborative learning: - In groups, think-ink-share the definitions of a map scale, types and their advantages and disadvantages. - Learners should be conscious of resolving interpersonal conflicts with each other if they arise in group discussions.
