Indicator: 1.1.1.LI.1 - Explain Geography and its branches
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- State at least two definitions of Geography and explain what the word means from its Greek origins.
- Identify and describe at least four environmental features found in their local area.
- Classify environmental features into the main branches of Geography (physical, human, and environmental) using a table or concept map.
- Explain the relationship between the branches of Geography and give at least one example of how they connect.
- Justify why a given feature or career belongs to a particular branch of Geography, using reasoned arguments rather than guesswork.

Talk for Learning: Through questioning explore what learners Know, Want to know and Learn (KWL) about geography. In pairs learners think and share the meaning of geography and some elements that constitutes geography ensuring GESI-responsiveness, taking note of the emotions of others and tolerating the views of others. Through questions and answers learners identify, collect and classify environmental features into the various branches of geography. Use tables or concepts maps to organise learners' contribution. Assessment (1.1.1.AS.1). The document marks these depth-of-knowledge levels for this indicator: Level 3 Strategic reasoning. Teaching and Learning Resources: - Use pictures and videos of the globe, atlas and Google Earth App. - Real objects such as rocks and plants - Use pictures and videos of careers in GEOGRAPHY. - Resource persons and institutions such as Land Use and Spatial Planning Authority, Lands Commission etc.
