Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: 1.1.1.LI.1 - Escucha y observa a amigos que se saludan
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Identify at least five common Spanish greetings used at different times of the day (morning, afternoon, evening) when listening to an audio recording.
- Distinguish between greetings used in the morning, afternoon, and evening by matching each greeting to the correct time of day.
- Repeat and pronounce basic Spanish greetings such as “Buenos días,” “Buenas tardes,” and “Buenas noches” with accurate intonation after listening to native or near-native audio models.
- Observe and describe the gestures, facial expressions, and body language that accompany greetings when watching a video of friends greeting each other.
- Respond to greetings from classmates in Spanish using the appropriate greeting for the time of day, demonstrating comprehension of what they have heard.
Position in the sequence: This lesson opens the topic of greetings and introductions. It focuses purely on listening and observing how friends greet each other. The formal production of greetings (saying “Hola, ¿cómo estás?” yourself) and the distinction between informal “tú” and formal “usted” forms are scheduled for Week 2 and will not be taught in this lesson.
