Learning Objectives
Indicator: 3.2.2.LI.3 - Apply criticism to their own works and art and design in general.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Apply the six-stage sequence of art criticism (aesthetic questioning, formal analysis, historical analysis, contextual analysis, interpretation, and audience judgement) to critique one of their own artworks from their personal archive.
- Critique a selected public artwork in Ghana using the correct hierarchy of sequence and supporting each stage with specific visual evidence.
- Distinguish between subjective personal preference and objective critical judgement when evaluating artworks by peers.
- Construct a mind map that shows the relationships and sequence among the stages of art criticism and use it to guide a group critique session.
- Deliver a brief oral critique of a peer’s artwork using ethical and respectful language, free from emotional bias.
