Learning Objectives

Indicator: 3.1.1.LI.1 - Identify and discuss the major milestones of contemporary art.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify at least five major milestones in contemporary art from the 1980s to the present, with their approximate dates.
  2. Discuss the key characteristics of each milestone, including the new ideas and changes in artworks associated with them.
  3. Explain the socio-cultural background of at least two contemporary artists whose works are linked to specific milestones.
  4. Create a manual or digital timeline showing the major milestones and at least one artist per milestone.
  5. Present and defend their timeline to the class, responding to questions about the significance of the milestones they have selected.
