Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: 1.3.2.LI.2 - Analyse pigment colours and that of the spectrum
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Distinguish between pigment colours and colours of the spectrum, citing at least three differences in their source, behaviour, and use.
- Identify the primary, secondary, and tertiary pigment colours, as well as the colours of the visible spectrum in their correct order.
- Explain the concept of colour mixing for pigments (subtractive) versus colour mixing for light (additive), with accurate examples.
- Analyse how pigment colours and spectrum colours are used in real-life design situations, such as printing, stage lighting, and digital screens.
- Create a comparative chart that illustrates the differences between pigment colours and spectrum colours, with correct labels and examples.

. Experiential Learning/structuring talk for learning/Project-Based Learning: Working individually/group, develop a chart to illustrate the distinction between pigment colours and colours of the spectrum. Collaborative Learning: In small groups, examine the basic characteristics of pigment colours and the colours of the spectrum. Explorative/Problem-based Learning: In small groups, investigate how pigment colours and the colours of the spectrum are used in creating designs. Assessment (1.3.2.AS.2). The document marks these depth-of-knowledge levels for this indicator: Level 2 Skills of conceptual understanding; Level 3 Strategic reasoning.
