Learning Objectives
Indicator: B7.1.1.1.1 (Verify: 1.1.2.LI.1)
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Recall and state the meaning of design and design concept in the context of ancient cultures.
- Identify at least three ancient cultures (for example, Egyptian, Greek, Chinese, Maya, and Ghanaian empires such as Ancient Ghana and Ashanti kingdoms) known for distinctive designs.
- Explain the function and physical characteristics of at least four designs from ancient cultures, such as Egyptian pyramids, Greek pottery, Ashanti gold weights, and Chinese bronze vessels.
- Categorise five ancient designs into a simple table according to function (utilitarian, ceremonial, decorative, architectural, communication) and physical characteristics (material, shape, surface decoration).
- Justify, with one reason each, how human needs and available materials shaped two specific ancient designs.
