Learning Objectives

Indicator: 3.4.1.LI.1 - Select an appropriate machine for a specific operation independently.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify the five woodwork machines (mortising/drilling machine, router shaping machine, grinding machine, lathe machine, and drum sander machine) by name and appearance.
  2. Describe the key parts of each of the five machines and state the function of each part.
  3. Match each machine to the specific woodwork operations it performs, giving at least one example of a task for each machine.
  4. Explain the safety precautions and work ethics required when working with each machine.
  5. Justify the selection of a particular machine for a given woodwork operation, comparing it with alternatives where relevant.
