SHS2 Applied Technology · Semester 2, Week 12
Electrical Systems Design
Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: 2.5.1.LI.10 - Conduct relevant tests on an Installation that has been completed
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- State the three main types of tests carried out on a completed electrical installation (continuity test, polarity test, and insulation resistance test) and explain the purpose of each.
- Describe the step-by-step process for carrying out a continuity test, a polarity test, and an insulation resistance test on a completed installation.
- Demonstrate the correct use of a multimeter and a megger to perform at least one of the three tests on a given circuit.
- Analyse the results of each test and decide whether the installation is safe and ready to be energised, giving reasons for the decision.
- Prepare a written group report on the testing process, including the steps followed and the readings obtained.

Collaborative/talk for learning : in a mix- ability group task students to discuss - Types of Test ( eg: continuity test, Polarity test and Insulation Resistance test) - Importance of each type of test - Process of carrying out each test Experience learning/collaborative learning: - Engage learners in groups to conduct the following activities - Watch video on how tes t ing is done and write a report on the steps involved in conducting each type of test. Demonstrate how to carry out each test. Assessment (2.5.1.AS.10). The document marks these depth-of-knowledge levels for this indicator: Level 3 Strategic reasoning; Level 4 Extended critical thinking and reasoning.
