Materials and Artefact Production in Woodwork Iindustry in Ghana

Lesson notes

Learning Objectives

Indicator: 2.4.2.LI.3 - Select appropriate materials suitable for producing the final solution

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify at least five different wood-based materials available in Ghana and describe their key properties relevant to artefact production.
  2. Justify the selection of a specific material for a given artefact by matching its properties to the functional and aesthetic requirements of the design.
  3. Evaluate at least two alternative materials for a given design brief and explain the trade-offs between cost, durability, workability and appearance.
  4. Select appropriate materials for their own final solution and present a written or oral justification that considers work ethics, including waste reduction and responsible sourcing.
  5. Participate collaboratively in mixed-ability groups to reach and defend group decisions on material selection, showing open-mindedness and respect for diverse viewpoints.
