SHS2 Applied Technology · Semester 1, Week 13

Welding Technology

Lesson notes

Learning Objectives

Indicator: 2.2.2.LI.6 - Explain and use the various tools and equipment for soft and hard soldering

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Distinguish between soft soldering and hard soldering (brazing) based on temperature range, filler metal, and joint strength.
  2. Identify and name at least six tools and pieces of equipment used for soldering and state the function of each.
  3. Demonstrate the correct sequence for setting up a soldering station, including safety checks, for a sheet metal project.
  4. Perform a simple soft soldering task on a sheet metal joint, using the appropriate tools correctly and safely.
  5. Justify the choice of soft soldering or hard soldering for a given sheet metal application, giving reasons based on material, strength, and heat tolerance.
