SHS2 Applied Technology · Semester 1, Week 11

Welding Technology

Lesson notes

Learning Objectives

Indicator: 2.2.2.LI.1 - Explain basic metal forming processes with engineering products.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Name at least five basic metal forming processes and describe the key features of each in their own words.
  2. Match each basic metal forming process to at least one real engineering product made using that process.
  3. Classify given metal products on a worksheet according to the forming process used to make them, giving reasons for their choices.
  4. Work in a group to observe and report on at least three metal forming processes demonstrated in class or shown in a video, using correct technical vocabulary.
  5. Assess the effect of heat and force on metals during forming and relate this to everyday Ghanaian metal products around them.

Exemplars (from the NaCCA curriculum)

Group work/collaborative learning: Group learners to describe precisely the processes involved in basic metal forming processes and identify items that are made by these processes.
Experiential learning: Learners embark on an educational visit to a local workshop and observe the basic metal forming processes and present a report to the class,

Assessment (2.2.2.AS.1). The document marks these depth-of-knowledge levels for this indicator: Level 2 Skills of conceptual understanding; Level 3 Strategic reasoning.
