SHS2 Applied Technology · Semester 1, Week 10

Engineering Materials, Tools, and Machines

Lesson notes

Learning Objectives

Indicator: 2.2.1.LI.6 - Apply the principles of sand casting to produce articles

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Describe accurately and honestly the sequence of steps in the sand casting process, from pattern making to finishing.
  2. Identify sand casting tools and equipment by name and explain the characteristic function of each one.
  3. Design a simple article suitable for sand casting, selecting appropriate materials and explaining their choices.
  4. Produce a finished sand cast article working collaboratively in a group, following correct safety procedures throughout.
  5. Evaluate the quality of their cast article against set criteria and suggest improvements for future castings.
