Learning Objectives

Indicator: 2.2.1.LI.4 - Demonstrate the use of the milling machine and cutting fluids.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

Identify and label the major parts of a milling machine and state the function of each part.
Demonstrate the correct procedure for setting up and operating a milling machine to produce a flat surface or slot on a workpiece.
Explain the purpose of cutting fluids in machining and select the appropriate cutting fluid for different materials and operations.
Apply safety rules and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements when using the milling machine.
Evaluate the effects of using or not using cutting fluids on tool life, surface finish, and workpiece temperature during a milling operation.
