Learning Objectives

Indicator: 2.1.2.LI.1 - Explain front axle and stub axle, types and their functions

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify the front axle assembly and stub axle on a chart, sketch, or real vehicle and label their main parts correctly.
  2. Distinguish between the two main types of front axles (live and dead) and explain the function of each type.
  3. Explain at least three functions of the front axle assembly in vehicle operation.
  4. Describe the different types of stub axles and state the specific function of each type.
  5. Justify the choice of a particular front axle or stub axle type for a given vehicle application, using sound reasoning.
