Learning Objectives

Indicator: 1.3.2.LI.2 - Describe the principles and operation of the various Diodes

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

Describe the formation of the pn junction in a semiconductor diode, including the roles of holes and free electrons.
Identify at least four types of diodes (LED, Zener diode, power diode, photo diode, infrared diode) by their construction and physical characteristics.
Explain the forward-bias and reverse-bias operation of each diode type and state which direction it conducts current.
State at least one practical application for each type of diode discussed in the lesson.
Compare and contrast the operation of a Zener diode with that of a power diode in terms of voltage regulation and rectification.

3. Any person at all can be selected as a leader of a group.
