Learning Objectives
Indicator: 3.4.2.LI.2 - Analyse the national debt and make meaning out of it.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Define national debt and distinguish between internal debt and external debt with Ghanaian examples.
- Extract national debt data from Ghana’s national budget documents or approved sources for a five-year period.
- Use Microsoft Excel to create a table and a line graph showing the trend of Ghana’s national debt over five years.
- Interpret the trend in Ghana’s national debt, stating whether it is rising, falling, or stable, and suggest at least two factors that may explain the trend.
- Assess the implications of a rising national debt on the Ghanaian economy and the ordinary citizen, and propose at least two responsible measures to manage national debt.
