Learning Objectives

Indicator: 2.4.2.LI.2 - Describe the role of financial institutions in an economy.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Define financial institutions and identify at least four types operating in Ghana (banks, insurance companies, microfinance institutions, and pension funds).
  2. Explain the key roles of financial institutions, including mobilising savings, providing credit, facilitating payments, and managing risk.
  3. Describe how financial institutions support businesses, individuals, and the government in the Ghanaian economy.
  4. Analyse, using specific examples from Ghana, how the activities of financial institutions affect daily economic life and national development.
  5. Demonstrate collaborative skills by working in mixed ability and gender groups to research and present the operations of a chosen financial institution.
