SHS2 Agriculture · Semester 2, Week 19

Agribusiness Mangement

Lesson notes

Learning Objectives

Indicator: 2.5.3.LI.3 - Analyse the types of records keeping in Agricultural enterprises

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Define farm records and explain why record keeping is essential for the success of an agricultural enterprise.
  2. Identify and categorise at least five different types of farm records, including production, financial, inventory, and labour records, with accurate descriptions of what each contains.
  3. Distinguish between records that track physical inputs and outputs (production records) and those that track money (financial records), giving correct examples of each.
  4. Design a simple, workable record-keeping system (using paper-based or digital formats) for a specific agricultural business operation, such as a poultry farm, tomato farm, or maize farm.
  5. Propose and explain at least two practical methods by which an illiterate farmer can keep reliable records of their agricultural activities, and evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of each method.

This lesson builds directly on Week 17 (establishment of agricultural enterprises) and Week 18 (sources of finance for agricultural enterprises). Learners will apply the knowledge of how a business is set up and funded to understand how records track the use of those funds and business performance. The managerial characteristics for agribusiness management will be covered in Week 20 and will not be taught here.
