Learning Objectives
Indicator: 2.4.2.LI.1 - Identify common diseases, pests and parasites of animals/fish and their effects in animal/fish production
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Define animal diseases, pests and parasites in their own words with at least 80% accuracy.
- Identify at least five common diseases and five common pests/parasites affecting livestock and fish in Ghana.
- Describe the observable signs (symptoms) of at least three common animal diseases and three common parasites.
- Explain at least three economic effects of pests and diseases on animal/fish production.
- Differentiate between healthy and unhealthy animals/fish using visual cues such as appearance, behaviour and appetite.

Structuring talk for learning: Learners in mixed-ability groups brainstorm to come up with the meaning of animal diseases, pests and parasites. Experiential learning: Learners in mixed-ability groups visit a nearby animal/fish production farm to observe and take pictures of healthy and ill health animals/fish or watch a video/picture of healthy and ill animals and prepare a photo album. Collaborative learning: Learners in mixed-ability groups discuss the nature and effects of animal diseases on Animal production. Teacher should deliberately involve learners who are introverts and those with speech problems in class discussions, building of photo album and presentation of results Assessment (2.4.2.AS.1).
