Learning Objectives

Indicator: 2.3.2.LI.2 - Investigate the treatments and therapies available to treat cancer and its physical, mental and emotional effects.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  • Explain how chemotherapy, radiation therapy and stem cell implants work to treat cancer at a basic level.
  • Identify at least three physical effects and at least three mental or emotional effects of chemotherapy and radiation therapy.
  • Compare the mechanisms of chemotherapy and radiation therapy in terms of how each targets cancer cells.
  • Discuss why cancer treatment affects not only the body but also the mind and emotions of patients.
  • Present research findings on one cancer therapy and respond respectfully to questions from peers.
