Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: 2.1.1.LI.3 - Explore any two/three biomedical career fields related to clinical or research studies and describe these career fields.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Describe the core duties of at least three biomedical career fields related to clinical or research studies: microbiology, clinical laboratory technology, and toxicology.
- Identify the educational pathways and skill requirements for each of the three career fields studied.
- Compare and contrast the roles of clinical-based and research-based biomedical careers using a mind map or chart.
- Relate the work of biomedical scientists in these career fields to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases in Ghana.
- Discuss how both men and women can pursue and excel in these biomedical career fields.

Exploratory Learning: Prior to the lesson, research individually about the biomedical career fields relating to clinical or research studies such as microbiologist, clinical laboratory technician, toxicologist, biomedical scientist, biotechnologist, etc. in relation to core duties, skills requirements and educational pathways. Project-Based Learning: Conduct personal research and create a mind map/chart on any three biomedical career fields and associated responsibilities and training required. Teaching and Learning Resources: - Videos - Documentaries and pictures of the various biomedical scientist professionals - Documentaries and pictures of the biomedical scientists in relation to forensic - Documentaries and pictures of the biomedical scientists in medical device production and regulation Assessment (2.1.1.AS.3). The document marks these depth-of-knowledge levels for this indicator: Level 1 Recall; Level 2 Skills of conceptual understanding; Level 3 Strategic reasoning.
