Learning Objectives
Indicator: 2.3.2.LI.2 - Describe the Agricultural Knowledge and Information Systems (AKIS) approach and methods
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Define Agricultural Knowledge and Information Systems (AKIS) and explain how it differs from the transfer-of-technology approach studied in Week 14.
- Identify the key actors in an AKIS network (farmers, researchers, extension agents, input dealers, processors, marketers, and others) and describe the role each plays.
- Describe at least three methods used in AKIS-based extension delivery, such as farmer field schools, demonstration plots, study tours, and farmer-to-farmer visits.
- Analyse a case study of an AKIS intervention in a Ghanaian arable crop enterprise and explain how knowledge flowed between the actors involved.
- Present a group report on an AKIS case study in a plenary session, showing confidence, respect for others’ views, and clear communication.
