SHS2 Agricultural Science · Semester 1, Week 13
Agricultural Machineries
Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: 2.1.3.LI.3 - Analyse the profitability of selected forms of irrigation
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Define profitability and list the key components (costs and returns) involved in analysing an irrigation system.
- Calculate the simple costs, returns, and net profit of a specified irrigation system using given data.
- Compare the profitability of drip, sprinkler, and surface irrigation systems based on their initial cost, running cost, water use, and yield.
- Explain at least two factors, other than money, that affect the decision to adopt a particular irrigation system.
- Justify, with evidence, which form of irrigation is most profitable for a given crop and farm size.

Collaborative Learning: Discuss and compare the modern and traditional ways of crop irrigation. Experiential Learning: Explain why the modern ways of irrigation are better than the traditional ways. Teaching and Learning Resources: - Preparatory materials (e.g., land, seeds /seedlings) - Simple irrigation materials (e.g., spraying materials; sprinklers) - Sprinklers - Tool drip lines - Video documentaries on forms of irrigation and pictures of emerging technologies which is applicable to agriculture - Projector - Video documentaries - Functional Internet facilities - Computer - smart phone - Gardens/farms employing - Sprinklers - Drip irrigation facilities - different forms of irrigation Assessment (2.1.3.AS.3). The document marks these depth-of-knowledge levels for this indicator: Level 1 Recall; Level 2 Skills of conceptual understanding.
