Scientific Bases of Physical Activity

Lesson notes

Learning Objectives

Indicator: 2.2.3.LI.1 - Discuss biomechanical principles in physical activity.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Define biomechanics and explain its relevance to physical activity and sports performance.
  2. Identify and describe at least four key biomechanical principles, including force, motion, leverage, and stability.
  3. Classify the three planes of motion and give a physical activity example for each plane.
  4. Discuss how the application of biomechanical principles can improve performance and reduce the risk of injury in physical activities.
  5. Work collaboratively in groups to research and present findings on a selected biomechanical principle, demonstrating leadership and communication skills.

Talk for Learning (TFL): Use questions to engage learners in small groups to discuss concepts of anatomy and physiology and lead make presentations.
In small groups, learners research on biomechanical principles in physical activity and share them with the class.
