Learning Objectives

Indicator: 1.1.2.LI.2 - Discuss the role of nutrition in healthy living

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Define nutrition and explain why the body requires the right balance of nutrients for healthy living.
  2. Classify the six classes of nutrients and identify at least one local Ghanaian food source for each class.
  3. Explain the specific function(s) of each nutrient class in maintaining human health.
  4. Discuss the consequences of poor nutrition on physical and mental health, using strategic reasoning to analyse cause-and-effect relationships.
  5. Create a food chart showing common local Ghanaian foods and their nutritional components.

Collaborative Learning: With the aid of charts or pictures, discuss the sources and functions of nutrients of the various local food items
Project-Based Learning

- Analyse the effect of each food nutrient on the health of humans.
