Learning Objectives

Indicator: 3.2.2.LI.2 - Analyse aspects of plot and their effect on readers.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  • Identify and label the five parts of plot structure (exposition, conflict, complication, climax, resolution) in selected prose texts.
  • Explain how each part of the plot affects the reader’s emotions, curiosity, or understanding, using evidence from the text.
  • Sequence key events from a short story or novel excerpt onto a plot diagram, justifying the placement of each event.
  • Compare the effects of two different plot structures (e.g., chronological versus non-linear) on the reader’s experience.
  • Work collaboratively to create a storyboard that shows the important events of a plot and present it to the class, showing how suspense or relief is built at each stage.
