Indicator: 3.2.2.LI.1
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Define theme in prose and distinguish it from plot and subject matter.
- Identify the main themes in a prescribed or selected prose text, citing specific textual evidence to support each identification.
- Explain how plot events and character actions work together to develop and reveal the themes of a story.
- Articulate a personal and critical response to a theme, supporting their opinion with reasoned arguments drawn from the text.
- Engage respectfully in group discussions, giving and receiving feedback on theme analysis with classmates of different backgrounds and viewpoints.
