Learning Objectives
Indicator: 3.2.1.LI.2 - Analyse the elements of prose useful in comparing/contrasting characters
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Explain the four-step process for comparing and contrasting characters (select, reread, note traits, compare side by side).
- Identify at least five elements of prose (character traits, dialogue, actions, relationships, and motivation) that serve as the basis for comparing characters.
- Construct a comparison chart that organises the traits of two characters from a given text side by side.
- Write a short analytical paragraph that contrasts two characters, using evidence from the text to support their claims.
- Evaluate how comparing and contrasting characters deepens their understanding of the text’s themes and concerns.

Talk for Learning: - In groups, learners use Think-Pair-Share to explain the processes of comparing and contrasting different characters; considering the following process: 1. Select two characters you would like to analyse, 2.Reread text to focus on them, 3.Take notes on a list of traits for each character 4.Compare and contrast them side by side. - In groups, learners analyse major and minor characters using this process. Share work with another pair. - In working in pairs, learners learn to develop empathy, and think critically to develop themselves personally. - Multi -sensorial - Audio-visual classrooms resources Assessment (3.2.1.AS.2).
