Learning Objectives
Indicator: 2.3.2.LI.3 - Analyse the use of dramatic devices in varied level appropriate drama texts.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Define at least five dramatic devices (such as aside, soliloquy, dramatic irony, flashback, and foreshadowing) and give one example of each from a drama text studied or provided.
- Identify and label dramatic devices in short extracts from varied level appropriate drama texts, both local and foreign.
- Explain the effect or purpose of a specific dramatic device in a given extract, stating how it contributes to theme, character, or audience engagement.
- Apply the 5 Whys strategy to analyse a short scene, moving from a surface observation to a deeper understanding of the playwright’s use of devices.
- Work collaboratively in groups to present a brief analytical comment on a dramatic device, using textual evidence to support their points.
