Learning Objectives
Indicator: 2.3.2.LI.1 - Identify and explain themes, style and language in drama texts
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Define theme, style and language as tools of dramatic appreciation and distinguish between them using examples from varied drama texts.
- Identify at least three major themes in a given drama extract and support each with relevant textual evidence (quotations or descriptions of scenes).
- Explain how a playwright’s style, including diction, imagery, symbolism and tone, shapes the meaning of a dramatic text.
- Analyse how language choices (formal, colloquial, figurative, dialect) reveal character, mood and setting in a drama extract.
- Work collaboratively in mixed-ability groups to present findings on themes, style and language in a selected drama text, respecting diverse perspectives.
