Learning Objectives
Indicator: 2.2.2.LI.2 - Develop complete essays based on the critique done on the prose texts.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Outline the structure of a complete critique essay, including introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion.
- Use a critique essay template to organise their annotations, summaries, and personal responses from prior lessons into a coherent draft.
- Write a complete critique essay of at least four paragraphs on a selected prose text, incorporating textual evidence and personal response.
- Apply the language of literary analysis (e.g., theme, style, characterisation, narrative device) in their written work.
- Evaluate a peer’s draft essay using a simple checklist and provide constructive feedback.
This lesson builds directly on the critique steps discussed in Week 11 and the earlier work on themes, style, and narrative devices covered in Weeks 7 to 9. Learners now move from talking about a text to producing a full, polished essay.
