Indicator: 2.2.2.LI.3 - Examine the overall impact of the author’s narrative devices and the effect on meaning
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Explain how at least three narrative devices (point of view, dialogue, flashback, foreshadowing, imagery, symbolism, or irony) work together to shape meaning in a selected prose text.
- Assess the overall impact of an author’s choice of narrative devices on the reader’s understanding of theme.
- Justify, with textual evidence, why a particular narrative device is effective (or ineffective) in conveying meaning.
- Compare how two different narrative devices contribute to the same theme in a selected text.
- Present a reasoned oral or written evaluation of a narrative device’s effect, using precise literary terminology.
